Manhattan woman unknowingly fed Plan-B by doctor boyfriend

Kim & Bae represented client “Kim” when she discovered that her boyfriend, whom she had been dating for one month, had slipped the Plan- B drug into her drink without telling her. Client discovered an empty Plan- B container in the trash, and when confronted, the Manhattan doctor admitted to slipping the drug into her drink without telling her so she wouldn’t get pregnant. Attorneys at Kim & Bae were able to come to a favorable resolution for our client.

US COURT OF APPEALS – 2ND CIRCUIT
Kim & Bae paves way for KIKO victims

Kim & Bae represented Simmtech in seeking restitution for losses relating to KIKO against Citi Bank. The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Simmtech, and is anticipated that many businesses in Korea may also file lawsuits against the Citibank in following Simmtech’s footsteps.

Kim & Bae P.C. ranks in top 14 for largest lawsuits in New Jersey

According to the Top 30 New Jersey State Judgment Compensation in 2014 published by the New Jersey Law Journal, in winning $4 million, Kim & Bae ranked 14th and 2nd in contract-related disputes. Among the top 30 law firms in the New Jersey State Judgment Compensation ranking, it was confirmed that Kim & Bae was the only Asian law firm.

Bergen County Ethics Chair

Founding Partner BJ Kim served on the Bergen County Ethics Chair. He was appointed as vice- chairman in 2015.

NY Clothing Group v. MP Fashion
Superior Court of NJ

Client MP Fashion conducted business with NY Clothing Group in producing over $500,000 worth of fashion pants. Upon delivery, however, Company “N” refused to pay the agreed amount, claiming that the pants did not meet the quality check and that the delivery method was different from what was agreed upon, among many other reasons. Company “N” initiated the lawsuit against our client, and Partner BJ Kim was able to successfully turn this dispute around with effective counterclaims. As a result of a jury trial, the Court ruled in our client’s favor and ordered Company “N” to pay for various damages and compensation.

Kim and Bae filed a lawsuit on behalf of Mr. Hong, a former employee of Woori America Bank, against the bank, claiming that Mr. Hong was discriminated against on the basis of his age.

Pal Park Soju dispute

Kim and Bae petitioned on behalf of the BYOB business owners in Palisades Park Town, refuting the classification of soju as a hard liquor.

Kim and Bae filed a lawsuit for damages amounting to $8 million, representing a former Korean franchisee who operated ‘KyoChon Chicken’ in Queens, claiming that the KyoChon Chicken USA headquarters did not fulfill their promised business support, ultimately leading to the closure of the business

Kim and Bae filed a lawsuit against their employer for a total of $3.5 million (approximately KRW 35.8 billion) in damages, claiming that they were fired after reporting a sexual harassment case involving their boss to the Seoul headquarters. The case also involved another individual referred to as ‘Imo

Founding Partner Christine Bae represented James Jin Kim when a manager at a McDonald’s in Flushing, NY, assaulted Kim. This case gathered attention in the Korean- American community and led to a boycott of this McDonald’s location.

Donika Sterling

Donika Sterling, a teenager from Queens, suffers from an inherited genetic disorder Charcot- Marie-Tooth disease. Upon learning that she is an avid K-pop fan, Kim & Bae sponsored Donika to go to South Korea and meet her favorite Korean pop stars.

Dong Sung Ahn v. State of New Jersey
(Palisades Park Municipal Court)

When a push and shove in a cafeteria line escalated into a brawl, Dong Sung Ahn was unfairly arrested and charged by the authorities. With limited resources and no family support in the United States, Ahn was completely alone to face these challenges. Partner B.J. Kim took this matter into his own hands and demanded a fair treatment for this young South- Korean exchange student, and ultimately led this case to acquittal.

Kim’s Farm v. T. Media
SDNY DISTRICT COURT

Kim’s Farm became the center of controversy after Warner Brothers 11 made a TV series about Korean habit of eating dog meat in November 2001 by visiting the farm and restaurant with a hidden camera. The local broadcaster falsely claimed that the Kim’s Farm is a supplier of dog meat and the restaurant serves dog soups to customers.
Even after the Agriculture Department of New York officially concluded in December 2001, ˝Both of the businesses did not sell dog soups and the farm was selling coyotes,˝ the rumors ensued.
Kim & Bae represented Kim Ju-ho, owner of the farm in filing a lawsuit asking for $7 million in compensations and WB11 agreed to settle the case.
